Two types of seismic waves
WebP waves are like the lightning, and S waves are like the thunder. The P waves travel faster and shake the ground where you are first. Then the S waves follow and shake the ground also. If you are close to the earthquake, the P and S wave will come one right after the other, but if you are far away, there will be more time between the two. Did you know?
WebSeismic waves are energy waves that occur as a result of earthquakes or explosions. Body waves and surface waves are the two types of earthquake waves. Earthquake waves are caused by the rapid release of energy along a fault (a sharp rupture in the crustal layer). The force exerted on the rock layers along a fault causes them to move in ... WebEarthquakes radiate seismic energy as both body and surface waves. Type # 1. Body Waves: Traveling through the interior of the earth, body waves arrive before the surface waves …
WebAug 23, 2011 · In this brief video, Smithsonian educator Catherine Sutera uses a Slinky® to demonstrate two types of seismic waves that people in the area may have felt: the P wave and the S wave. Both are known as "body waves," because they move through Earth's interior. The P wave, also called the primary wave, is the fastest seismic wave. WebThis wave behaviour can also be used on a smaller scale by recording waves generated by explosions or ground vibrators in the search for oil and gas. Types of seismic waves.
