Aside from the considerable weight difference, birch is much more durable for cabs that need to be moved a lot, like PA cabs. MDF will dent and tear fairly easily. Good Baltic Birch, not so much. MDF is a great material for cabs b/c it's so dense and fairly non-resonant.

But I'm a woodworker at heart, love working with birch because you can leave it light or take it as dark as you want. Its waay lighter than MDF and more rigid as well.
